About our FAM

When there are 140 million considered orphans worldwide, with over 400,000 of these children living in the United States, we know there’s work to be done.

God promises to “set the lonely in families” (Psalm 68:6) and we’re dedicated to joining this effort. Through our Family Advocacy Ministry (FAM), we’re working to provide what vulnerable children in our local community need most––strong families.

Why serve through our FAM?

Volunteers have the opportunity to positively impact the child welfare crisis and care for vulnerable children.

We do this by:

  • Praying diligently and consistently

  • Raising awareness around the needs of vulnerable children

  • Recruiting & Equipping families to care for at-risk kids

  • Serving foster & adoptive families, and biological families in crisis

  • Advocating on behalf of families and vulnerable children

  • Ministering to families and meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs

  • Providing adoption grants & resources to families in our congregation

Care Communities

One of the biggest ways we serve foster,  adoptive, and biological families in crisis is through our Care Communities. Care Community volunteers come alongside families to provide wrap-around support by:

· Providing weekly meals

· Supplying or sourcing practical needs (eg. bunk beds, strollers, car seats, clothing)

· Transporting children to appointments

· Mentoring children

· Coordinating volunteers to serve a family

· Becoming trained to provide respite care

· And more!

An interesting fact about Care Communities: The national average of families who continue fostering after their first year is about 50%, but when supported by a FAM and its Care Communities, 90% continue fostering into a second year.

CarePortal

Our partnering church, Rancho Church, has the opportunity to be a first responder in the child welfare crisis by meeting the physical needs of the families in our local community. We utilize a tool called CarePortal to carry out this mission.

CarePortal is a technological platform that has already served 79,021 children. By using this tool, our volunteers can help provide preventative support for struggling families before foster care is a necessity. When the intervention of foster care does become a necessity, CarePortal also supports the foster families who are welcoming these children.

The process is simple: Volunteers sign up to receive an email notification, staying updated on the needs of families in our community. Then, you get to decide if and when you’re able to help meet a need!
